Manipulation Under Anesthesia
What is Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA)?
MUA is the mobilization of the patient’s ligaments, muscles and joints while the patient is under anesthesia. It can be applied to any area of the spine as well as peripheral joints.
MUA procedures are not new. In fact MUA has been utilized in manual medicine for nearly 90 years. MUA reduces pain and scar tissue, increasing range of motion while decreasing treatment time. The adjustments made during MUA are the same as regular chiropractic visits but require less force due to the patient’s relaxed state.
An inflammatory response occurs following injury, which results in the formation of adhesions or scar tissue to repair the injured area. MUA procedures alter the formation of scar tissue into a more normal pattern in the muscles and joint capsules resulting in greater range of motion. Physi- cal therapy and range of motion exercises follow the MUA to ensure long-lasting improvement from the procedures.
Who is a candidate for MUA?
Patients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions and orthopedic injuries, for whom conservative care, manipulation and chiropractic adjustments have provided incomplete relief, and where manipulation remains the treatment of choice.
Patients with injuries where manipulation is the treatment of choice but are so painful that narcotics and other analgesics have had little benefit.
Patients with acute exacerbations of chronic conditions where manipulation and chiropractic adjustments have provided incomplete relief but where manipulation remains the treatment of choice.
Patients who have started conservative care but their pain is too great to allow manipulation and chiropractic adjustments.
Patients who have started conservative care but muscle spasm, adhesions and scar tissue prevent manipulation and chiropractic adjustments to provide complete relief.
Post-Procedure Care
Patients undergo a 4-6 week rehabilitation program consisting of flexibility and strength training, often times becoming stronger than their pre-injury condition.

My mom had her wrist broken and was in so much pain, I was very worried. So I took her to the doctor at Neo Medical Group at once. He examined her hand, and told us that the best solution for an injury now is Joint Reconstruction. The price of this treatment is surprisingly low, and they took good care of my mom there. She feels great and is thankful to your professional doctors.

For the last 5 years I had been suffering from acute pain in the elbow. My grandson decided to take me to the trusted doctor to check if it is an injury or what exactly. In Neo Medical Group, they told me that due to my age I have a severe condition which needs to be treated with Arthroscopic Debridgement of the Elbow. And this treatment really helped, I never felt better.
Great Facility!! Amazing staff!! Won’t be disappointed
